Introduction

In accordance with the Planning & Development Act 2000, the existing Regional Planning Guideliness (2004) are under review as Regional Planning Guidelines must be reviewed every 6 years. The RPG’s set out the spatial planning framework for the Border Region, within the framework of the government’s National Spatial Strategy and other national, regional and local strategies.

In accordance with the requirements of Section 7 (1), (3) and (4) of the Planning and Development (Regional Planning Guidelines) Regulations 2009, the Border Regional Authority is currently reviewing the RPGs for the Border Region.

Summary of RPG Review (See timetable below for further details)

In February 2009 an Issues Paper was published and put on Public Display.

In April 2009 a Directors Report was prepared on all the submissions and observations received during the consultation period.  This was brought before, and approved by, the Members of the Regional Authority in May 2009.

The Director was then instructed by the Members of the Authority to prepare Draft Regional Planning Guidelines for the Border Region.
